We are an active, family orientated club based in Colwyn Bay in beautiful North Wales. The club is well established having been formed in 1985.
Colwyn Canoe Club regularly paddles on the sea, lakes, rivers (including competition slalom) and have even been known to surf on the local beaches given the right conditions.
Recently we have been able to venture in to slalom canoeing and kayaking, this is thanks to Jon Davies from Canoe Wales who has come along to coach this discipline as part of our pool session schedule when requested. This collaboration with Jon has led to some of our members becoming very accomplished slalom competition paddlers competing in the GB national championships .
Regular Meetings
We meet regularly on Friday evenings (dependent on volunteer coaches to run sessions) but also paddle on other days and times. In the winter we use the pool at Colwyn Leisure Centre, Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay on a Friday evening as well as getting out on those lovely welsh rivers, lakes and sea areas when we can. In the summer we paddle at various places usually within easy reach of our base in Colwyn Bay. These trips or sessions are based on what is viable and are dependent on weather conditions, water levels and availability of personnel etc.
The winter Friday evening pool sessions provide a safe and warm environment to learn and develop paddling skills, plus have some fun and play a few games. We do prefer all complete beginners to attend either the pool sessions or designated novice sessions to get the basic skills needed before venturing out on to open water. The winter pool sessions are very popular so we advise you to book early.
Whether it’s river kayaking, slalom, open canoeing, sea kayaking or surfing that floats your boat, come along and join us.
