** All club activity is carried out under appropriate safety measures and risk assessments for Covid-19 **

The club are overjoyed to announce we have been accepted for a grant application we put in with the Gwyn Ty Mor windfarm community grant scheme. The amount we have received is just short of £5000 and will be utilised with the purchase of 5 new sea kayaks and associated equipment. The grant will be topped up to a tune of around £1000 from club funds for the associated equipment we need to go with the kayaks.

Despite the impact of COVID-19 on our activities in 2020 and early 2021, the club is going from strength to strength with our membership now at 140 or so and growing.

We have expanded out activities to now include stand up paddle boarding and we have qualified coaches in this sport to add to our kayak and canoeing coaches.

We have also opened up the club to families with very young children down to the age of 4 by purchasing specialist kit to suit their smaller frames.

Here’s some of our past activities and achievements:

Canoe Wales Coach of the Year 2018

We are incredibly proud to announce that Carys Owen from Colwyn Canoe Club was awarded the Canoe Wales Coach of the year award for 2018.

This is a highly deserved award in recognition of the tireless effort and work that Carys puts in to the club. One area in which Carys excels is to motivate families with children of all ages to get involved in our sport. To help with bringing in families to our sport the club have removed any age restrictions that previously applied and at the same time purchased special equipment that allows us to accommodate paddlers of almost any age. It is Carys who has organised our very popular family camping and paddling trips over this summer , there are more in the pipeline for 2019!

Family Fun Weekend Camp

We pride ourselves on being a family biased club open to everyone and we are eager to introduce very young folk to paddling as we believe you can never be too young to get involved and have some fun. With this in mind we recently had a family camping weekend (camping optional) at Llyn Gwynant in lovely Snowdonia. We took around 20 of our members along, mostly first time paddlers, to have some paddling fun on the lake, enjoy sleeping under canvas (for those that wished to) and doing other activities such as gorge walking and jumping in the lake from the rocks. We had a superb time!!
Amongst the group who came along were our youngest members with their families, we had Phoebe who is 4 years of age and a veteran paddler Seren who is 5. The weekend was such a blast and everyone involved had a fab time. If you think you would like to come along and join us get in touch and we can give you all the details.
